On a month-long residency in Paliano in Southern Italy, I had the use of a small room, a former stable, next to the main building. A long table was ideal to roll out paper. I painted with large brushes and brushes fashioned from wheat ears and grasses I found in the fields nearby. You can see the unique brushwork in the paintings. It was a wonderfully free and creative experience, where the heat of the summer, the smells of the campagna and lots of delicious wine and olives all came together to produce a new body of work.
